1. Rother Valley Country Park, Rotherham:
This park covers an area of 750 acres. This park offers you a beautiful landscape to explore and enjoy the surroundings.
You will see a wide variety of wildlife all around the park. At the nature reserve, you can explore about 260 different species of birds.
At the craft center, there is a bakery named Sophia and Ruby’s Dog Bakery where you can buy treats for your pets.
For adventure-loving people, this park provides various cycle routes from an easy flat trail around the leisure lake to more exciting mountain bike trails through the woodlands.
You can also enjoy several watersports such as water zorbing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, and windboarding. This park opens from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Entry to the park is free.
2. Boston Castle and Grounds, Rotherham:
The castle is a square building of two stories standing on one of the highest points in Rotherham.
It covers an area of about eight hectares. This castle got its name to commemorate the Boston Tea Party. Here at Boston Castle, you can learn about the history of the castle.
You can also visit the roof to get an expansive view of Rotherham and Sheffield. Boston Park was opened in 1876 and is the first public park in Rotherham.
At this park, you can find a cricket ground, bowling, and croquet lawn, as well as an open area for gymnastics.
This park opens from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The admission price is £6 for adults and £2.5 for children over the age of 6.
3. South Yorkshire Transport Museum, Rotherham:
This museum is a non-profit organization that has a wide range of vintage vehicles on display. This museum houses about 50 vintage vehicles including cars, buses, trams, locomotives, and two tractors.
Some of the buses are open so you can go inside them to explore. You will get Free Heritage Shuttle Bus Pickups from the bus station, from the museum, and back.
There are a few cafes in the museum where you can take a break. Around the room, you will find a lot of memorabilia such as magazines, cabinets with figures, stamps collections, and more.
This museum opens once a month on Sunday from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.
4. Keppel’s Column, Rotherham:
This triumphal pillar is located outside the village of Scholes in Southern Yorkshire, England. It is about 115 ft in height.
This column was built in the late 18th century to commemorate the acquittal of the court-martialled Admiral Augustus Keppel.
This column has an internal spiral staircase that takes you to the top of it. Kepple’s Column has been closed to the public due to being unsafe.
5. Rockingham Mausoleum:
The authorities have designated Rockingham Mausoleum as a Grade I Listed Building. It is a cenotaph and a Temple of Friendship commemorating Charles Watson, 2nd Marquess of Rockingham.
They built it in 1989. The height of this cenotaph is 27 meters and it is a three-staged monument. Inside the monument, you will find a statue of Joseph Nollekens with an upraised hand.
It also has obelisks at its four corners. The Mausoleum of the Julii inspired the three-story design of this monument.
6. Football Match:
Football is very popular as a sport in Rotherham. Rother has its football team named Rotherham United Football Club which is nicknamed The Millers.
Earlier the town was represented by Rotherham Town and Rotherham County. They both played in the football league. You can enjoy a football match in Rotherham at Aesseal New York Stadium.
This stadium has a capacity of 12,000 people. The major rivals of Rotherham United Football Club are Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, and Leeds United.
